Lucy and Daniel's Empowering Caesarean Birth

I was quite scared about having my baby at the start of COVID. As I wasn’t able to have my mum there.  So, my husband I attended the Birthing Master-Class with Debra. The classes were informative & easy to understand. They covered all the stages of labour and birth. This gave my partner and I a general idea of what to expect. The thing that helped immensely was the techniques to stay calm.

I had planned on having a natural birth and tried to birth him naturally, but we were both getting tired. My pelvic girdle was too small and my son was getting stuck.  So, the doctors suggested a caesarean for our safety. I was pretty scared to be honest, but the doctors and nurses in theatre were really nice. I tried to stay ‘zen’ & practice the mindfulness & breathing that we were taught in class... that was really helpful. Both methods of birth were covered in birth-ed, So I had a general understanding of caesareans.  Knowing what was going to happen helped to an extent. Before I knew it, I was taken into theatre & the epidural was being administered and then my son Ashley was here.

My recovery was good. I didn’t have any issues with my wound. I did have some post-natal depression, but I sought help early.

As the name of the program is called ‘Empowered to Birth.’ I felt so empowered! I felt strong! I was in control! Thank you, Debra, for your support & care. I now have a happy, healthy, smart 11-month-old son, Ashley.
